Abstract

Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) personnel perform their duties in a high-risk work environment at airports. This article aims to identify potential hazards and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) risks faced by ARFF personnel. This study uses a literature review method, examining scientific articles, national regulations, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) documents, and relevant prior research related to the operational context of ARFF in Indonesia. The findings identify ten main potential hazards, grouped into five classifications: physical hazards, chemical hazards, mechanical/equipment hazards, ergonomic hazards, and psychosocial hazards. Risk levels range from moderate to high, requiring systematic control through engineering, administrative, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) measures. Regular training, scheduled vehicle maintenance, use of SCBA, implementation of an integrated emergency management system (IEMS), and periodic health monitoring are the main control recommendations. This study also shows that effective OSH management in ARFF units has a direct implication on emergency response readiness and overall aviation safety, in line with national regulations (KP 14/2015, PR 30/2022) and international standards (ICAO Annex 14, Doc 9137).
